Course Content and Benefits of Completion
In the NAOI Individual Investor
Certification Program you will learn the following:
- The basic
principles of investing presented in a clear and concise format.
You will build a foundation of knowledge that is critical for all of
your current and future investing activities.
- How to create
investing goals that you really want to achieve in life.
You will first define investing goals that get your juices flowing;
that get you excited. Then you will learn how to transform these goals into
a detailed action plan and a portfolio of specific investments. The course provides
step-by-step guidance, online calculators and worksheets that lead you through the process.
- How to find investment ideas for your
portfolio. You will be shown a multitude of resources for
finding investment ideas. You will learn
how to utilize third party advice, Web sites, newsletters and other
sources to get investment candidates that meet the requirements of
your Investing Plan. These ideas will be candidates for further evaluation.
- How to evaluate investment
candidates. You will work with detailed "due
diligence" checklists for stocks and funds along with links to
Web sites that provide the data you need to make informed decisions. You will never again need to trust third party advice when
considering an investment.
- How to monitor
and take control of your portfolio. You will be linked to
amazing online portfolio tools that enable you to easily and
efficiently track the performance of your investments. You will be
shown how to set up an "alerts" system that automatically
emails you when your portfolio or any investment in it needs attention.
You will also learn how to completely analyze your portfolio to
ensure that it is in-line with your risk tolerance and your goals.
In short, you will be shown how to regain control of your
portfolio.
- How to set up
a plan for trading individual stocks. Most individuals
have no problem buying stocks but have tremendous difficulty selling
them, a requirement for making money. The course will show you how
to set up a plan for each of your stock trades that
automatically gives you buy and sell signals, taking emotions out of
the equation and allowing you to take profits and limit losses.
- How to work effectively with a
broker and/or financial advisor. You will learn how to identify, evaluate and select an "investing support
team". Some of you will be happy working by yourself. Others
will be more comfortable working with a broker or advisor. The course
provides checklists and questionnaires for finding the best human
resources for your team. You will also learn what to do if something
goes wrong between you and your advisor.
- How to find and use the most effective
resources on the Web. In each area of your investing
activities you will be shown powerful Web resources that enable you
to transform your knowledge into action. The course's extensive
Web Resource Center contains dozens of links to sites that are among the
most effective on the Web. Almost all provide capabilities and
information free of charge.
- How to use
stock options to reduce the risk of your portfolio and/or generate
additional income. The final lesson of the course gives you an overview of
stock options, how they work and how they can be used. Options do
not have to be a risky investment. If used properly and they can
both reduce the risk of your portfolio and significantly enhance
performance.
