Course Foreword

This course is about trading Focused Funds, an investment type that allows you to easily invest in entire market segments such as, for example, Gold, Energy, Healthcare, Real Estate, China and an almost unlimited number of other areas. Focused Fund investing can significantly boost the returns of your portfolio. Focused Funds can give you returns of 20% and higher in just about any market condition.

But in exchange for this increased return you will need to learn how target market investing works You must know where to find and how to use powerful Web-based resources that can give you the tools and information essential for this type of investing. And you must put in place a Trading Plan for each purchase you make in order to take profits and limit losses. You will learn all of this and more in this course.

The Second Portfolio Segment

Focused Funds is the second Portfolio Segment defined by the NAOI in the Confident Investing Series. In Course 2 of the Series you studied the Core Funds Segment. In Courses 4 you will study the Individual Stock Segment and in Course 5 you will study Options.

You learned in Course 2 that Core Funds are the “buy and hold” investments of your portfolio. They will be well diversified and give you exposure to a wide range of companies and market sectors. The Core Segment is characterized by relatively low risk and moderate returns. As such, the return potential of your Core Funds segment may not be sufficient to meet the goals of your Investing Plan, a document you created if you completed Course 1 of the Confident Investing Series.

In order to boost your overall portfolio returns to levels that are significantly above market averages you will need to include segments in your portfolio in addition to your Core. Focused Funds is one such segment.

What You Will Learn In This Course

As a graduate of this course you will understand what Focused Funds are and how they can be used to easily and cost effectively invest in entire market segments with one purchase. You will study the factors that affect market segments and you will have the knowledge, tools and online resources to make potentially profitable trades based on your study of market and economic conditions. As a course graduate you will understand the potential risks and rewards of trading Focused Funds and you will have an idea of the time and effort that will be required to be effective in this area of investing.

With this information in hand you will then be able to decide if you want to include a Focused Fund Segment in your overall portfolio. If you decide to do so, you will be fully enabled to work with this new and exciting investment type with confidence.
