Course "Forward"
Welcome to the NAOI Investing Basics and Creating
Your Unique Investing Plan course. This is Course One of the “NAOI Confident
Investing Series” and your first step toward becoming a confident and effective
investor.
This is a stand-alone course and you do not need to take ANY of the
other courses in the Series to gain significant benefits from the information
you learn here. However, it is our hope that as a graduate of this course
you will realize that your investments hold far more potential than you
currently believe and can give you
far higher returns than they are now providing. We are confident that this
realization will give you the motivation to take other courses in the Confident
Investing Series.
What You Will Learn
In this course you first build a foundation of basic
investing knowledge. You will learn about how the world of investing is divided
into asset classes and the characteristics of each. You will learn the
connection between risk and reward. And you will be given calculators and
worksheets that
demonstrate the power of investment compounding and the advantages of
contributing to your investing account early and often. You will also learn
about the various investing vehicles available to you such as Mutual Funds,
Exchange Traded Funds and Stock Options. With this base-line of knowledge
in place, the next step is the creation of your unique Investing Plan.
The course leads you through a process
that enables you to define an Investing Plan that gives structure to your investing
activities. As a part of this process you will define your investing goals, document
your current financial status and determine your tolerance for risk. You will
develop a detailed plan that ensures that you will no longer invest "at
random". Each of your future investing decisions will have a purpose and a
plan. Your unique Investing Plan will fit your unique Investing Style.
Your Investing Style
NAOI courses do not assume that you are any
specific "type" of investor. We do not assume that you will immediately become
an "active" investor after graduating from this course or from the
entire NAOI Confident Investing Series. Different individuals will have different
investing styles and some styles will be more active than others. Here are three
potential "styles" you may consider:
Investing with an
Advisor. Some NAOI graduates will want to continue working with an advisor and nowhere in
any NAOI course do we recommend against using professional help. But if you work
with an advisor you MUST be able to independently evaluate their
recommendations. Unfortunately, too many advisors are salespeople first and
objective advisors second. And unfortunately too many individuals accept these
recommendations without question. NAOI graduates don't.
Investing On Your Own.
Other NAOI course graduates will recognize the
potential of investing on their own. They will realize that they are fully
capable of making their own investing decisions by using the knowledge and
resources provided in this course and others in the Series. These individuals are not satisfied with “market average” returns
and are willing to become more involved in the investing process to achieve monetary
goals far in excess of those that can be achieved by “passive” investors.
Doing Both. And yet other NAOI graduates will want to adopt a
style that includes both an advisor and personal investing. Such individuals
will perhaps keep their Core Portfolio Segment (discussed in Course 2) in the
hands of professionals while personally managing more “active” Portfolio
Segments (discussed in Courses 3 - 5) that can produce returns of 20% and
higher.
Your investing style can only be determined by
YOU. But you must make this decision based on knowledge and not by
"default". You may currently think you are a passive / uninterested
investor. As an NAOI graduate you may change your mind and become an involved /
excited investor. This change of "style" quite often happens to NAOI
students after they understand how to invest, the tools available to them and
the wealth potential that exists. As an NAOI graduate you will be able to
determine the "type" of investor you really are. And it may surprise
you.
The First Step to Unlocking
Your Portfolio Potential
If you are willing to take the
time and effort to study investing, to plan create an investing plan and to
take advantage of free online resources you will realize that their investments hold wealth potential far above what
you have been told are possible. As a graduate of this Course One you will see the
full potential of your portfolio and the NAOI believes that this realization
will motivate you to continue your studies by taking additional courses in the Confident
Investing Series.
Course One is the first step on what can be a
very profitable journey toward taking charge of your investments. And this is a
journey that can change your life.
